Fighting Conflict With Prayer

Bible Focus: Genesis 27:5-13
Imagine how the biblical record of Isaac and Rebekah's home would have been different if they had learned to deal with their conflicts through prayer, rather than through deceit, scheming and manipulation.

If you want to do a better job of resolving conflict in your marriage (and every other important relationship for that matter), you have to discover the power of praying together. Praying in the middle of a conflict is as important as praying during the calm periods. You find praying together while in the middle of conflict difficult mostly because you now see your spouse as an opponent. How do I know? A common example is how you address your spouse while angry. Many people throw away the pet names once they are in disagreement with their spouse. You get it wrong. He/she isn't your enemy. You must always put it at the front of your mind that you are both on the same team, conflict or no conflict.

Meditate on Ephesians 4:25-27 for some of the best advice on marriage.
"So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbours the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil."
I'll like to emphasize "Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry". We should abide by this principle. You can either choose to keep being angry or turning toward one another and God in prayer together as a couple. Truly, a family that prays together stays together.

Inviting the Prince of Peace into your boat in the middle of the storm is truly the tested and trusted solution.
